Jimmie Williamson Supports Rotary-Led Efforts to Advance Alzheimer’s and Dementia Research

At Your Health, we are proud to celebrate leaders who serve not only within our organization, but also throughout the communities and causes that matter deeply to the people we care for.

National Effort began in South Carolina at Sumter Rotary Club with the late Roger Ackerman.

We are excited to recognize Dr. Jimmie Williamson, Chief Behavioral Officer at Your Health, for his continued service through Rotary and his leadership in supporting efforts that raise awareness and funding for Alzheimer’s and dementia research.

Each July, Rotary clubs and districts welcome new leadership, fresh ideas and renewed energy for service. This year marks an exciting new chapter as Dr. Williamson begins a two-year Rotary leadership term supporting the work and mission of The CART Fund, a Rotary-supported initiative dedicated to funding Alzheimer’s disease research.

The CART Fund, which stands for Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust, has deep roots in South Carolina. The national effort began in 1995 at the Rotary Club of Sumter through the vision of the late Roger Ackerman. What started as a grassroots effort encouraging Rotarians to donate the change from their pockets has grown into a significant source of funding for early-stage, high-impact Alzheimer’s research.

Through the generosity and commitment of Rotary clubs, districts, individual donors and community supporters, funds raised help researchers pursue promising work related to the prevention, treatment and potential cure of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

This year, CART reviewed 98 research proposals and awarded 15 grants totaling approximately $4.5 million. This support helps move promising research forward while bringing hope to patients, caregivers and families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Recently, Dr. Williamson joined Tiffany S. Ervin, outgoing CART president Carol Burdette and other Rotary leaders at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. During the visit, they connected with researchers studying the brain and exploring potential links between brain anatomy, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

These collaborations represent the heart of the mission: bringing service, science and community support together to help change the future for patients and families.

For Dr. Williamson, this work aligns closely with his role as a behavioral health leader. Alzheimer’s disease and dementia affect not only individuals, but also their families, caregivers and communities. Supporting research, awareness and education reflects the same compassion and commitment that guide his work at Your Health every day.
