James Gasque, MD

Medicine, leadership, and service have shaped Dr. James Gasque’s career in Internal Medicine. A board-certified Internal Medicine physician, he has cared for patients in military, hospital, and veteran healthcare settings while also serving in medical leadership and teaching roles.

His experience includes caring for patients with a wide range of health needs, including veterans returning from military service. While working with the Department of Veterans Affairs, Dr. Gasque was part of a collaborative team supporting veterans with physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. His work has also included efforts focused on reducing hospital readmissions, improving patient flow, and supporting patient safety.

Before his work with the VA, Dr. Gasque built an extensive career in military medicine. He served in several clinical and leadership positions, including Chief of Medical Staff, Director of Patient Safety, and Director of Medical Management. These roles gave him experience coordinating care, working across healthcare teams, and helping guide programs designed to improve the way patients receive care.

Teaching has also been an important part of his career. Dr. Gasque has served as an affiliated Associate Professor with the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and has helped educate medical students, residents, and advanced practice nursing students. His commitment to education extends into the community, where he has participated in health workshops and lectures covering topics such as healthy lifestyles, men’s and women’s health, and obesity.

Dr. Gasque earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Florida College of Medicine after completing his Bachelor of Science in Biology at Morehouse College. He completed his Internal Medicine internship and residency at the Medical College of Georgia.

Across his work as a physician, educator, and medical leader, Dr. Gasque has remained connected to the people and communities he serves. His broad experience brings together clinical care, education, teamwork, and a long-standing commitment to helping patients navigate their health.
